Pain-Free Cure to Allergic Rhinitis? Sublingual and Subcutaneous Immunotherapy.

Are you looking for a permanent cure to Allergic Rhinitis? Your answer may lie in Sublingual and Subcutaneous Immunotherapy. So, how exactly does it work to cure Allergic Rhinitis?

Think of it as a form of vaccination, but it takes more than one dose of treatment to fix Allergic Rhinitis. Allergens like dustmites are introduced to the body via an injection(subcutaneous) or as a form of oral(sublingual) solution to be placed under the tongue. The idea is to desensitize the body over a period of time to the extent that it builds up enough tolerance to the allergens.

While Sublingual Immunotherapy is relatively new in Singapore, Subcutaneous Immunotherapy has already already been around for years. Wow, I didn't know that. Sublingual Immunotherapy seems to be a much more attractive alternative for kids or people who are afraid of needles.

However, do note that the entire course of treatment could take up to 3 years or more. In total, it could cost around SGD$6000 to SGD$7000. In the long run, it could prove to be a cheaper alternative for us who are suffering from Allergic Rhinitis. After all, health is not something you could put a price tag on anyway.

As far as I know, sublingual immunotherapy is not yet FDA approved in the U.S. and worldwide sublingual immunotherapy has only been well established for grass-pollen allergy. See here.
